Frequently asked questions
What documents do I need to renew my Spanish driving licence?
Original valid ID (NIE, passport or DNI), your current driving licence (even if expired), and your glasses or contact lenses if you wear them. The photo is taken free of charge at our centre.
Can I get a duplicate if my licence is lost or damaged?
Yes. We process duplicate driving licences for lost, stolen or damaged cards. Depending on when your licence was last renewed, a new medical certificate may be required — we handle everything on the spot.
How long does the whole DGT procedure take at Emedical?
The medical assessment takes around 20–30 minutes. We submit everything electronically on the same visit and hand you the provisional certificate before you leave — no need to come back another day.
Do I need an appointment?
No. We see patients in order of arrival without a prior appointment. If you prefer to avoid waiting, you can book a time slot by phone or WhatsApp.
Can I drive abroad with the provisional certificate?
No. The provisional certificate is only valid for driving within Spain. You must wait for the permanent plastic card to drive abroad.
